DOMAINE PAGNOTTA

Chagny, Burgundy

Umberto Pagnotta created the domain in the 1970’s in Rully where he produced wines from 12 acres of vine on this appellation only.

Today, the vineyards span over 82 acres producing delicious wines across Bouzeron, Santenay, Mercurey, Givry, Maranges, Hautes-Côtes and regional appellations. Now based in the heart of Chagny, on the edge of Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, the winery is easily accessible to the family vineyards and comprises modern vinification, aging and storage cellars. Great attention is paid to the vineyards throughout the year to respect the environment and produce disease-free grapes that are perfectly matured at the time of harvest.

Givry is a village appellation located in the Côte de Chalonnaise (Saône-et-Loire) and is comprised of 38 Premiers Cru Climats.  Red and white wines grown within the defined area of this appellation. Producing communes: Givry, Dracy-le-Fort, Jambles.  In this appellation, the words Premier Cru and/or the name of the Climat of origin may be added to the name Givry for wines grown on Premier Cru plots.

This Côte Chalonnaise wines was the favorite of the French King Henri IV (1553-1610). It is produced in the communes of Givry (with its hamlets Poncey, Cortiambles and Russilly), Dracy-le-Fort, and Jambles – a corner of Paradise for wine-growing, surrounding what has been a fortified location since the Middle Ages. Its AOC dates from 1946. As Philippe Sollers wrote in his autobiography “Being born into a culture of French wine is a deeply fortifying and sobering experience that becomes a part of you. As a child, one does not even need to read Rabelais - his words live and speak all around”.
