One of the six communes (in addition to Listrac-Médoc, Moulis, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien) within the French Haut-Médoc area which are independent appellations and are allowed to bear the place name on the label. Of these, Margaux is the most famous and largest municipality in the centre of the Médoc. The appellation also includes the four municipalities of Arsac, Cantenac, Labarde and Soussans.

Chateau des Graviers consists of 17 acres in Margaux. Some of the adjacent parcels are Grands Crus Classes such as Chateau Issan, Rauzan-Ségla, Prieuré-Lichine and Marojallia. The soil dates back to the "Quaternaire" and is made of gravel from the Pyrennees, and of clay from the Garonne river bed. The vines are an average age of 35 years old. Manual harvest, each parcel is vinified separately: Cabernet Franc goes through a carbonic maceration, Malbec and Petit Verdot are vinified in open stainless vats allowing for easier punching down, the Carmenere is vinified in 2x600 liter barriques laid on a bed of big rolling pebbles allowing to roll them onto themselves as needed. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon go through a more classic process of maceration and fermentation from 6 to 8 weeks. Aging is in 25% new french oak barrels for 12 to 16 months. Each March, Christophe joins a friend Tonnelier (barrel manufacturer) who lives in Loir-et-Cher (southwest of Paris in the central part of the Loire valley) and together they decide which trees will be cut to make his barrels.
