Harvest/Vinification: Semi-carbonic maceration with whole clusters - fermenting for 8 days in gridded tanks - matured in vats for 6 months on fine lees – kieselgur filtration – cold spell before bottling on the estate in traditional Burgundy bottles and natural corks.
Nose: A wine very aromatic with nice floral and fruity notes
Palate: Wine is round, bright and fruity
Food: A perfect wine to pair with appetizers, ham, charcuterie, lamb shank with chives and mashed potatoes, cheeses, pasta Asian or Mexican food.
Cellaring: Drink now or cellar until 2024

Beaujolais
Lucien Lardy is a third generation winemaker who cultivates some of the best Fleurie plots in Beaujolais where he practices responsible farming. The vineyard is located in Fleurie, one of the ten Cru in Beaujolais. It is at a “lieu dit” named “Roches” because the bedrock comes right up to the surface, giving the vines a very poor soil in which they have to struggle to grow. The vines average 40 years of age and are planted at a density of 10,000 plants per hectare.
Coming from a family of four children, I was the only one to choose winemaker as my profession. My father left me a wonderful legacy that I wanted to honor and preserve. I am fortunate that as part of my daily work I am acting as keeper of a French heritage. If you’ve already had the opportunity to visit the Beaujolais-Villages appellation area, you’ve no doubt noticed the magnificent château above the vineyards. This wonderful estate in the Pierres Dorées area is hard to miss. People call it Sleeping Beauty’s castle but its real name is Château de Montmelas. It was restored in neo-Gothic style in the 19th century but its history goes way back to 957.
Back then, it was the residence of the Lords of Beaujeu who gave their name to the Beaujolais region, as you may well have guessed! It was also at this time that the monks at Cluny contributed to the development of the vineyards over numerous slopes that would later form part of the appellation.
