Domaine Philippe Robert & Fils

Marsannay,  Burgundy

Domaine Philippe Robert et Fils has been deeply rooted in the Côte de Nuits for four generations, guided by a steadfast commitment to terroir and meticulous winemaking. Established in 1950 by Michel and Madeleine Robert, the estate entered a new era of independence when they began harvesting and bottling their wines entirely in-house, laying the foundation for its enduring identity.

In the 1990s, their son Philippe assumed leadership, preserving the family’s dedication to articulating the distinct character of each parcel. The next generation followed in 2015, when Johann joined the domaine after completing his studies at the École Viticole de Beaune. Today, the family cultivates just over 22 acres of vineyards spanning Fixin, Gevrey-Chambertin, and Marsannay.

The domaine practices responsible viticulture and holds HVE3 certification, reflecting a longstanding avoidance of chemical treatments in favor of authenticity, environmental stewardship, and harmony with nature. In the cellar, tradition prevails: reds undergo a cool pre-fermentation maceration, extraction is gentle and adapted to the character of each vintage, and the use of new oak remains restrained—sourced primarily from Tonnellerie Rousseau.

Marsannay is a village appellation located in the Côte de Nuits region.  Producing communes: Marsannay-la-Côte, Couchey and Chenôve.  On the label, the appellation Marsannay may be followed by the name of the Climat of origin.

Regarded as the “Golden Gate to the Côte de Nuits”, the appellation Marsannay covers the communes of Chenôve, Marsannay-la-Côte and Couchey. There is evidence of vineyards here, as is the case of the rest of the Côte, as early as the 7th century and the prestige of this vine-growing region is long established.

The Abbey of Bèze, the Bishop of Autun, the Dukes of Bourgogne and many others have owned vines here and the wines found their way to the tables of Louis XIV and Louis XVl. As late as the 19th century, some Climats enjoyed a classification equivalent to today’s Grands Crus.
