Producer: Domaine Pagnotta
Wine: 2014 Mercurey 1er Cru Clos Voyens
Varietal: 100% Pinot Noir
Nose: Aromas of smoked cherry, ripe plums with hints of spice
Palate: Silky, tannins, big bold finished with meaty notes
Food: Mercurey, secure in its position among the royalty of wines, brings out the best from beef rib steaks, or joints of beef or lamb, braised or in sauce. Roast pork is well suited to its rich aromas, as are poultry-based stews. As for the cheeseboard, this wine harmonizes equally well with either mild, soft cheeses or aged versions.
Cellaring: Drink now or hold until 2021
Domaine Pagnotta, Chagny - Burgundy (between Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise)
Umberto Pagnotta created the domain in the 1970’s in Rully where he produced wines from 12 acres of vine on this appellation only. In 1989, his son Rocco joined him after graduating from Lycee Viticole de Beaune and they created Domaine Pagnotta Pere et Fils.
Today, Rocco combines modern methods with tradition. With his love of Burgundy wine-making, Rocco has been making a significant investment for over 20 years to develop the Domaine to 82 acres producing delicious wines across Bouzeron, Santenay, Mercurey, Givry, Maranges, Hautes-Côtes and regional appellations. Now based in the heart of Chagny, on the edge of Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, the winery is easily accessible to the family vineyards and comprises modern vinification, ageing and storage cellars. Great attention is paid to the vineyards throughout the year to respect the environment and produce disease-free grapes that are perfectly matured at the time of harvest.
